Unstable nativity play

Sir, – I realised the importance of good casting in dramatic productions recently when I heard the story of the teacher who cast a very soft little boy as the innkeeper in the Christmas nativity play.

After much rehearsal, on opening night Joseph and Mary knocked on the door of the inn.

After an initial refusal of entry, a second plea by Mary for admission, as they had nowhere else to go, was met with, “Oh, all right, come on in so!”

The subsequent absence of Joseph and Mary from the stable scene left the production somewhat in disarray. – Yours, etc,
