The future of Dublin Port

A chara, – The proposal by the Docklands Business Forum to move the port of Dublin out of the city shows a complete disconnection with the culture and people of the city ("Docklands companies call for Dublin port to be moved", News, February 15th).

Since the arrival of the Vikings and their settlement at Wood Quay, Dublin port has grown and evolved with the city and its people. Let’s not rip the very source and lifeblood out of Dublin, a port city. – Is mise,

Sir, – Mark FitzGerald of Sherry Fitzgerald (Letters, February 16th) advocates taking a 100-year view of Irish housing. Nowadays, we're bombarded with 100-year climate forecasts that paint a picture of nothing but disaster. Can we be sure, if a new suburb on 640 acres is built at Dublin Port, it won't submit to a deluge before long? – Yours, etc,
