Sir, – I was surprised and a little envious to read the letter that described pensioners as people who form "the bulk of cultural audiences and keep the entire hospitality trade going..." (Letters, February 25th).
The description led me to conjure up images of pensioners as pint-swilling, restaurant-dining, cinema-going, theatre-attending good-time Charlies. I have found, even before Covid, that the pensioners’ reality of caring for grandchildren and of having a reduced income and deteriorating mobility, combined with increasing joint pains, somewhat different from the utopia your letter writer describes. – Yours, etc,
AOIFE LORD,
Tankardstown,
