Sir, – Ken Andrew (January 4th) misses one crucial fact in his arguments that warnings over the dangers of Brexit have largely failed to materialise.

Sir, – While very amusing, I feel that Fintan O'Toole's "Blow the doors off" analogy compares unfavourably with another, more historical, yardstick he might have used (Opinion & Analysis, January 2nd).

In 1492 Christopher Columbus set off on a similarly uncharted adventure. He set out not knowing where he was going. He didn’t know where he was when he got there. And he came back without knowing where he’d been.Things later worked out quite well for the Europeans, but not quite so well for the natives. – Yours, etc,

Sir, – Brexit is a time bomb that has yet to go off.To continue the movie analogy.. The climax comes when the hero has to cut the blue or red wire. Unfortunately we do not have someone in a starring role that knows which is the safest one. – Yours, etc,
