Sir, – Tom Burke omits mention of another Irish regiment of the British army disbanded at Windsor Castle on June 12th, 1922 (An Irishman's Diary, May 9th). The South Irish Horse, although only in existence for 20 years by the time of its disbandment, was largely constituted by young Catholic lads (like my great-grandfather Pte Michael J Connell) from all over the southern area of Ireland.
They served valiantly, and fell, at the Somme and elsewhere. Lest we forget. – Yours, etc,
ANDREW ENNIS,
Dublin 8.
