Sir, – It is disappointing that the interview with Simon Harris contains nothing on the proposed industrial action by care workers in voluntary bodies whose remuneration is funded through the health vote via the HSE (News, December 30th).
By some arcane mechanism these workers who had their pay cut by the Financial Emergency Measures in the Public Interest (Fempi) legislation along with public service workers in general are now deemed not to be eligible for the pay restoration being granted to others.
It would be of great interest to your readers to see Simon Harris’s explanation for this puzzling state of affairs, and to know how he intends to remedy the blatant unfairness involved. – Yours, etc,
