Sir, – It is with interest that I note the Department of Education’s approach to lost school days. If a school closes due to snow, then the department treats this as a lost learning day and expects the school to make up the lost day as soon as possible.
However, if a school has to close because it is to be used as a polling station, then the department does not expect that lost day to be made up.
The classification of the day of our general elections as non-learning days might help to explain why we never learn when we vote. – Yours, etc,
DERMOT O’ROURKE,
