Sir, – The Government’s latest advice asks families to voluntarily isolate for five days if one family member tests positive for Covid. This latest clarification from the Government acknowledges that Covid is not going away any time soon.
During the previous school year, the Department of Education allocated additional teachers to assist schools in meeting the challenges of Covid.
Any teacher employed for two years as Covid support may be let go at the end of this school year so that schools do not have to offer them continuity of employment.
The Government should confirm for schools, teachers, students and parents that these supports will continue, and that the contractual uncertainty surrounding this valuable cohort of teachers will be removed.
– Yours, etc,
PATRICK CALLAN,
