Ringsend incinerator

Sir, – I couldn't disagree more with Brian Cullen (February 7th). Surely the real blight on Dublin Bay's landscape are the powerful floodlights installed on some all-weather pitches.

At night these can be seen from miles away.

I think the new Ringsend incinerator looks absolutely stunning. From some angles its sloping sides remind me of the US navy’s new Zumwalt-class stealth destroyers.

Unfortunately the performance of the Zumwalt ships has been described as “an unmitigated disaster”.

I trust that the new incinerator will be more successful. – Yours, etc,

Sir, – Brian Cullen wonders if the Ringsend incinerator is visible from space? Not alone is it visible from space, I suspect it came from space. I remember seeing a similar vessel in an old episode of Star Trek. – Yours, etc,

RORY NOONAN,

Sir, – In the matter of the Ringsend incinerator eyesore, Colin Rogan (February 8th) tells us that "the same was said of the Poolbeg chimneys".

Precisely. They were and still are an even greater eyesore. When is the Irish love affair with architectural ugliness going to end? – Yours, etc,

Terenure,
