Retail therapy

Sir, – Doing some shopping in my local supermarket, at the checkout I was asked to pay €3.25. My bill had been rounded down from €3.27. I was thrilled to find myself for the first time on the right side of the rounding process. However, in paying electronically, I noticed I was charged the full €3.27.

I expressed my outrage suitably.

One of those delayed by my exchange with the shop assistant suggested I write a letter to The Irish Times. So I did. – Yours, etc,

MICHAEL KEEGAN,
