Sir, –The Irish Dental Association has put a damper on our increasing fondness for sparkling wine ("Prosecco may be contributing to increased dental decay", August 25th). Is nothing sacred anymore?
If my only options are a life with perfect teeth and no prosecco, or a life with prosecco and dentures, then my choice is clear. Living without prosecco would leave a very large cavity in my life. – Yours, etc,

Sir, – Perhaps the damage to Irish teeth is caused by the quantity of prosecco consumed, rather than the quality.
And maybe, like the man who had 15 pints in the pub, it was the bag of chips on the way home that did the damage. – Yours, etc,
