Sir, – The recent criticisms of ink-jet printers are well-founded (Letters, August 14th, 16th). My own ink-jet printer exhausted its black cartridge without printing a single page, just by initialising the cartridge on power up, and some models (not mine) will not operate the attached scanner, which requires no ink, with the cartridges empty.
My suggestion is to buy a black-and-white laser printer. My replacement for the ink-jet printer cost under €100, the third-party toner cartridge, capacity 3,300 pages, to replace the supplied “starter” toner cost €55, and the printer prints on both sides of the paper. – Yours, etc,
