Sir, – Your health correspondent, Paul Cullen, has been excellent throughout this pandemic, always fair and insightful. His piece on the barrage of criticism towards the National Immunisation Advisory Committee (November 9th) was an excellent example.
I believe that the vast majority of rational people appreciate the difficult and sometimes impossible task being undertaken by Niac and Nphet in steering us safely through this dreadful situation.
Niac, under the excellent guidance of Prof Karina Butler, has shown dedication and flexibility when it was deemed safe and necessary.
I respectfully suggest that now is another of those pivotal times that, with exponential growth in Covid numbers, waning vaccine immunity and the inherent risk associated with Christmas, we, aged 60-69 (many of us looking after grandchildren on a daily basis) urgently need a change of the six-month interval between last vaccine and booster dose to a five-month interval which will offer us much-needed protection against hospitalisation and death. – Yours, etc,
BRIEGE RUST,
Blackrock,
Co Louth.
