Sir, – So, Ireland’s newest motorway is officially opened at a cost of €550 million, connecting Tuam and Gort, a distance of just under 60 km, and not a toll to be paid for travelling on it!
Travel from south Dublin to Drogheda, an equivalent distance, and you could pay six tolls, a total of €26.60 for one return journey at peak times.
Could the Minister for Transport Shane Ross tell us how fair all this really is and why it is that the west is so awake to the possibilities of free travel subsidised by the east? – Yours, etc,
MICHAEL BAUME,
