Sir, – In an era when populist, dopamine-triggered banalities are crowding out whatever might claim any more than a femto-second of our besieged media attention, it was strangely jolting, and heartening, to be stopped in my tracks by your headline to Michael Viney's half-page article, "The near-invisible lives of Ireland's water beetles" (Weekend, November 6th).
That a newspaper can still devote so much space to the slow pleasures of such unshowy material is one in the eye for the frantic targeting algorithms of our time.
Made my day – never mind my moment. – Yours, etc,
KILLIAN O DONNELL
