Metro plans for Dublin

Sir, – Further to "Metro plans set to be redrawn following political opposition" (News, July 11th), surely the National Transport Authority (NTA) should consider seriously Eamon Ryan's excellent recent proposal to realign the Metro from Charlemont to Rathfarnham via Rathmines and Terenure, thus leaving the existing Cross City Luas line uninterrupted. – Yours, etc,

JAMES PIKE,

Sir, – The best alternative to current plans would be to stay underground at Charlemont and from there route the Metro to Rathgar, Terenure, Rathfarnham and even on to Firhouse.

These are areas of our capital city that do not have the same level of public transport service, that have no links with train services and, in the case of Terenure, would be a nightmare if trying to upgrade bus services.

Such a route would also prevent the closure of the Green Luas line necessitated by the upgrading works and would also protect the communities that are threatened with being cut in two by the current plan. – Yours, etc,

Cllr PATRICK COSTELLO,

Rathmines,
