Meath United

Sir, – Mervyn Taylor's call (Letters, April 1st) for a reunited Meath must surely include the outpost Omeath, currently annexed in north Co Louth. Please let us learn lessons from the past and not end up trying to solve the Northern Meath question in years to come. – Yours, etc,

HUGH McDONNELL,

Termonfeckin,

Co Louth.

Sir, – Mr Taylor may propose the reunification of Meath and Westmeath, which is all fine and dandy. However, those of us in the little “appendix” of Westmeath west of the Inny river are all too aware of what happens to small isolated sections of a county when it is handiest for the powers that be to ignore us. If the Meaths unite we in the appendix may have to become Longfordians! – Yours, etc,

JOHN K ROGERS,

Ballydorey,

Rathowen,

Co Westmeath.
