Sir, – Even the significant title of the document the “Treaty” between the old enemy and the aspiring independent country tells its own story. A document that agrees to the formation of a Free State and guarantees peace.
Sad that the current Government did not highlight the significance of the Treaty in a more meaningful way. Perhaps that extra public holiday we are all promised could be linked to the significance of the Treaty.
A negotiated treaty, agreed by the majority of Irish people should be acknowledged for its historical significance.
