Sir, – I was moved to hear the Irish national anthem played in the square at Amiens for the 100th anniversary of that decisive battle. It was good to see official Ireland represented.
It would be even more cathartic if official Ireland were to put the record straight about its repudiation of the brave men who fought to the finish to deny the Kaiser victory in that brutal war. The treatment of our dead and returning heroes was shameful and for official Ireland, in our time, to be standing with the Allies, when official Ireland in 1918 was hoping for a different outcome to Amiens, and the war, is something many of us find hard to stomach. – Yours, etc,
PADDY McEVOY,
