Sir, –You suggest that, of the three IRA fatalities at the Kilmichael ambush of November 28th, 1920, Pat Deasy, Michael McCarthy and Jim Sullivan: “the last two . . . were allegedly killed following a ‘false surrender’ by some of the Auxiliaries, as alleged by Barry years later” (“Dundalk ‘sneeringly hostile’ to IRA in War of Independence”, News, February 23rd).
In fact, the ambush commander Tom Barry named Deasy and Sullivan as victims of the Auxiliary trick. McCarthy was killed earlier. – Yours, etc,
