Sir, – Has anyone noticed the high and extraordinarily dangerous, thin, stick-like heels of various TV personality women’s shoes, including those of the newsreaders? In the days when, as a student of art history, I was privileged to be shown around beautiful homes and museums in Italy, whose wooden floors were a work of art in themselves, we were required to don soft, fluffy slippers over our own shoes, regardless of the height of heel, and then skated around, polishing as we went. I have carpets in my home but, if I didn’t, I would do as friends in Slovenia do, and keep a basket of slippers beside the front door. – Yours, etc,
JANE MEREDITH,
Cabinteely,
Dublin 18.
