Sir, – Further to the letter by Val Fitzpatrick (October 19th) about goldfinches in her garden, several years ago I had the same pleasure of seeing a group of goldfinches and discovered that the collective noun for goldfinches was a "charm of goldfinches", which they certainly are. – Yours, etc,
