Sir, – Having received some correspondence, I recently had occasion to telephone the offices of the Revenue Commissioners. The only contact number provided was an 1890 number. On reaching this number, there was a recorded message suggesting that the call should only be made from a landline. Having waited for 22½ minutes, I still hadn’t spoken to any official. I gave up. The total cost of the call was €10.34.
Management seems to have decided to deter human contact by making it extremely difficult to meet any official in the public offices and ensuring that those who have mobile phone access only will refrain from calling due to the exorbitant cost.
Its “customer service standards” states: “We want to make it easy for you to do business with us.”
I think not! – Yours, etc,
MARGARET CUSACK,
