Sir, – For the past 27 years, my wife has been under the firm impression that on many Friday evenings and on St Patrick’s Day, I have been meeting and dining with fellow members of the Ancient and Most Benevolent Order of the Friendly Brothers of Saint Patrick.
Your obituary of Mr Justice Gerard Buchanan ("Judge who led first investigation into Dunnes Stores payments to Haughey", March 10th) avers that "the society was wound up in the 1980s".
Not so. We are alive and thriving, and the barbarous act of duelling remains in abeyance. – Yours, etc,
WALTER HESELTINE,
