Sir, – At last a little balance in your Opinion section. Muireann Lynch ("No point pretending we don't need new fossil fuel sources", Opinion, March 18th) rightly acknowledges that there is no current alternative to using some level of fossil fuels for energy security.
Far too many of your commentators allow their enthusiasm for net zero to ignore the intermittency of wind and solar, or to lazily dismiss this basic issue by reference to unspecified future advances in battery technology.
Ms Lynch tiptoes around the obvious security case for an LNG terminal.
Perhaps a few power outages would serve to focus the public debate on the central issue of securing baseload electricity generation. – Yours, etc.
