Ferry signs baffle tourists

Sir, – I wish to add to JJ Murphy’s observation (June 16th) regarding the ferry symbol still adorning the directions to Dún Laoghaire on the M50, and describe the deep distress that visiting motorists, often from the UK, experience when they arrive at the RNLI Lifeboat Shop on the seafront in Dún Laoghaire looking for the ferry to Wales. We then explain that they still have to drive along the coast to get across the Merrion Gates, find the toll bridge, cross the river and get in to Dublin Port, often with very little time to spare, if any.

I have emailed the Minister for Transport to no avail, and have asked all these visitors to Ireland to write to our Government or Fáilte Ireland.

How hard can it be to cover up these ferry symbols on these road signs? Are we waiting for the Stena ferry to return to Dún Laoghaire in the future? It is disgraceful. – Yours, etc,

BARBARA TAYLOR,
