Fallen leaves

Sir, – If I were to gather up two or three barrow-loads of fallen leaves from my front garden, then wheel them out and dump them in the middle of the road outside my neighbour’s garden, I don’t think either he or our local authority would be too pleased.

Yet that is effectively what many garden maintenance companies are doing as they tidy their client’s gardens, then conveniently clear away the detritus with their powerful leaf-blowers. Out of sight, out of mind.

Ironically, the advertising and logos on their vans usually imply that they are particularly environmentally conscious. – Yours, etc,

RODNEY DEVITT,
