Sir, – Researching the most climate-conscious travel methods to Spain recently left me disheartened.
Option A involved rail and sail to London, the Eurostar to Paris, and a train down to Barcelona, but this involved an overnight in London and Paris, due to scheduling constraints, and thus would take three days and a hefty chunk of money.
Option B involved the ferry from Rosslare to Bilbao.
Disappointingly, they do not take foot passengers, and it would cost almost €700 for one person to take the car aboard, and book a cabin for the two-night sailing.
Infuriatingly, option C, flying, costs less than €100 return, and takes mere hours .
Not travelling to see friends and family is not an option.
The Government need to subsidise ferry travel, and create and promote climate-conscious infrastructure. – Yours, etc,
