Sir, – May I suggest that Kenneth O'Lehan's shattered scone is a product of pronunciation (Letters, March 30th). In ordering a scone with a hard "O" vowel (as in "cone"), the accompanying butter is invariably hard. Should he request a scone (as in "gone") using a soft vowel, butter served on the side would be soft.
Moreover, in places where pronunciation matters, butter would never come to table in wrapping paper. – Yours, etc,
