Sir, – Given that Brown Thomas has only had a car park for 24 of its 173 years and there are four carparks literally within a five-minute walk of the front door of Brown Thomas (Drury Street, Setanta, St Stephen’s Green and Dawson Street/Mansion House), I do wonder how the store and Grafton Street could possibly survive without it being there?
Stockholm, a city with an older demographic base, was well into the process of demolishing its downtown multistorey car parks when the Brown Thomas car park was being built in 1997 and its population and downtown area have coped quite well. – Yours, etc,
