Sir, – Further to Richard Romer's opinion (Letters, November 22nd), if indeed Minister of State Pippa Hackett's forecast of not reaching the Government's own annual target planting programme of 8,000 hectares annually until 2030 is correct, where will Ireland get her trees for building, fencing, pallets, etc? By importing timber? And does the Government prefer to pay huge fines from reneging on our climate mitigation commitments rather than grow our own trees? – Yours, etc,
GILL McCARTHY,
Shillelagh, Co Wicklow.
