Apprenticeships

Sir, – Recent headlines have pointed out the worryingly high dropout rates from certain university courses. Surely this shines the spotlight on the nonsense of expecting all students to advance to university?

The false notion that apprenticeships are somewhat less valuable or useful should be shown up for what it is – snobbish nonsense. The job satisfaction to be had from an occupation that one is suited to and enjoys should be the primary concern of school career advice.

This is being constantly undermined by the dangerously misleading school league tables that totally ignore the needs and capabilities of a large proportion of the student population. – Yours, etc,

JOHN ROGERS,
