Sir, – Now that we have passed through the yearly transition for the second-last time I hope we can come up with a good practical solution. I came across the following in Daingean Notes in the Offaly Independent of February 25th, 1930.
“It was announced at the Masses in Daingean on Sunday that summer time will be observed as far as the week-day ceremonies are concerned, but no change will be made in regard to Sunday or holiday devotions.”
Now in those days they were well able to please everyone. – Yours, etc,

Sir, – Cormac Meehan (Letters, March 28th) suggests that “the issue of the adoption of either standard time or summer time” could be put to the voters on May 24th.
In Ireland, summer time has been standard time (“one hour in advance of Greenwich mean time”) since the enactment of the Standard Time Act of 1968.
The choice for voters would be between standard time and winter time, which is defined as Greenwich mean time. – Yours, etc,
