Life lessons learned as autumn leaves refuse to fall

Some trees remain a glorious blaze of colour

Sir, – Further to Marion Walsh’s letter on autumn colours (“Fear not: trees will don their autumn colours in November”, October 28th), two trees I can see from my bedroom window are dealing with the onset of winter in different ways. One has completely given up and only a few tattered leaves remain on its sad and scrawny branches, while the other has no intention of giving up, seems still to be in full leaf, and is a glorious blaze of autumn colours.

I’m 93. It makes me think. – Yours, etc,

JANE MEREDITH,

Cabinteely,
