Sir, – At some junctions, pedestrians must ask twice to cross once.
Press the button, wait for the green man, cross to a traffic island – then press another button and wait again, sometimes through a full light cycle, to cross the rest of the way. Meanwhile, cars, trucks and bicycles cross the entire junction on a single green light.
One journey becomes two permissions, with pedestrians repeatedly stopping, asking and waiting while motor traffic keeps moving.
Are pedestrians an afterthought – or second-class road users?

If we genuinely want people to walk rather than drive, we should stop putting obstacles in their way. – Yours, etc,
