Letters to the Editor

Sir, – Had Britain’s foremost “national treasure”, the redoubtable environmentalist David Attenborough – 100 d years on planet Earth on Friday – been born on the island of Ireland, he would be eligible for the Irish President’s Centenarian Bounty (worth €2,540).

Of course, when it comes to rewarding individuals for services to the world’s fragile environment, even the contents of Fort Knox would scarcely be an adequate prize to bestow on this veritable living saint. – Yours, etc,

Paul Delaney,

Dalkey,

Dublin.
