Sir, – The article by Donald Clarke about Emma Radacanu and the crying baby reminded me of an incident at mass. (“In the case of Emma Raducanu and the crying child, it’s clear who’s to blame,“ August 17th).
This was before Vatican II, so it was being conducted with great solemnity, into which intruded the wails of an infant right at the front.
The celebrant, our formidable parish priest, finally snapped. “For God’s sake,” he said. “Will someone shoot that bloody baby?”
As someone once observed, the past is a foreign country. – Yours, etc,
