Sir, - Stephen Collins is right (Rory McIlroy’s wish to be identified as Northern Irish is typical of his generation, Opinion & Analysis, April 18th), to highlight Rory McIlroy’s identification as Northern Irish. But I would go one additional step further.
With his total ease and comfort identifying as Irish and representing Ireland, while at the same time being discussed as a potential knight of the British realm, he represents all of us who live here - British, Irish, Northern Irish alike.
In this he is the walking, talking, embodiment of the Good Friday agreement, and that is something to be celebrated alongside his monumental sporting success. - Yours etc,
