New York Times website back online after ‘technical difficulties’

Spokeswoman says she has no information on whether site was hacked

The New York Times website was back online this evening shortly after 6pm Irish time after it went down earlier suffering what the company called "technical difficulties".

“We expect to be back up shortly,” the publisher had said in a Twitter post.

The site had not been operational since before 11:30am New York time.

Eileen Murphy, a spokeswoman for New York Times Co, earlier said the publisher did not have any information on whether the site had been hacked.
