A van driver has been threatened and told to deliver a package to a police station in Northern Ireland.

Two masked men targeted the fast food delivery driver as he made a drop-off in the Creggan area of Derry last night.

Police said he was ordered to take the suspect package to the city’s main station at Strand Road but managed to escape on foot.

His van, which he abandoned, has been taken away for forensic examination.

The man was delivering to a house in High Park at about 8pm when he was approached.

A spokeswoman for the Police Service of Northern Ireland appealed for anyone with information to come forward.

Last week a female bus driver was left traumatised after she was forced to transport a viable bomb to the same police station.

A masked man claiming to be from the IRA boarded the vehicle in the Ballymagroarty area, left the device behind the driver’s seat and ordered the 10 passengers off before making his escape.

The terrified woman was able to alert the authorities and the bomb which was attached to a two-hour timer was made safe by the army. (PA)
