A new website for primary school teachers aimed at highlighting and celebrating intercultural differences in Ireland was unveiled today.

Celebrating Difference, from  Crosscare, the Social Care Agency of the Dublin Diocese,  is designed to help teachers encourage children's curiosity and create a desire to explore similarities and differences between people.

The website was unveiled by the Archbishop of Dublin, Dr Diarmuid Martin, and the President of the Central Executive Committee of the INTO, Sheila Nunan, at St Patrick’s College in Dublin today.

According to the archbishop there are 100 different nationalities are represented in schools in the Dublin diocese.

"Ireland, in the future will be a society in which difference will be more evident and in which, hopefully, difference will be seen as enriching.

"We have the possibility of leading the way, rather than waiting to react to tensions should they occu,r" Dr Martin said.

The programme started originally as teachers resource pack that concentrated on Travellers but has since been redeveloped to include new Irish minorities.
