A Co Tipperary water company has recalled containers of bottled water, due to the presence of low levels of E. coli.

A Co Tipperary water company has recalled containers of bottled water, due to the presence of low levels of E. coli.

Fionnuisce has initiated a product recall of its 18.9 litre bulk containers which are supplied mostly to offices and businesses. A statement from the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) today confirmed some have also been supplied to domestic users.

The containers are sold directly to customers and are not available in retail outlets. The FSAI has advised people not to drink the water as it is unsafe for consumption and may present a health risk.

Supplies of smaller standard size Fionnuisce bottled water are not affected by the recall, as the water comes from a separate source.

FSAI deputy chief executive Alan Reilly said that under its legal obligations, the industry should be seeking to reach the highest standards of production in the interest of consumer health.
