The leader of the Labour Party, Mr Pat Rabbitte has announced a number of staff appointments, including the return of former Labour adviser, Mr Fergus Finlay.

Mr Finlay, who served as former Labour leader, Mr Dick Spring's key adviser for 15 years up until 1997, will become Chef de Cabinet. Currently, he heads Wilson Hartnell Public Relations' public affairs unit.

Mr Tony Heffernan, who served as Assistant Government Press Secretary during The Rainbow administration, has been reappointed as Labour's Parliamentary Director. Mr Feargus O'Raghallaigh has been appointed as Mr Rabbitte's special adviser.

He served Mr Rabbitte during his time as Minister of State at the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment.

Dr Colm O'Reardon has been reappointed as Labour's economic adviser.

A Rhodes Scholar, he holds a first class honours degree in economics from Trinity College, Dublin and a doctorate in Political Economy from Wolfson College, University of Oxford.

He joined Labour as economic adviser to Mr Quinn.
