Legal adviser to Fianna Fáil on a voluntary basis, barrister and councillor Jim O'Callaghan retrieved the seat the party lost in the economic meltdown. He stood for election in Dublin South East a number of times. His victory this time reflects the swing back to Fianna Fáil. Popular within the party, he is also warmly regarded by political opponents from all parties and can be expected to rise within the party's front ranks. He is the party's only councillor in southeast Dublin. First elected in 2009 to the Pembroke-Rathmines ward, he lives in Rathmines. RTÉ broadcaster and presenter Miriam O'Callaghan is his sister.
