Skerries-based Brendan Ryan (59) begins his second term as a Labour TD, having followed his brother Seán, who retired in 2007, into the Dáil.

He missed out on his brother’s seat in the 2007 general election. He was elected to the administrative panel of the Seanad in 2007 and won a Dáil seat in the same Dublin North constituency as his brother, now Dublin Fingal, in 2011.

A rare contributor to the Dáil, he is seen as a good constituency worker.

He is a graduate of DCU, UCD and DIT, holding a degree in chemistry and masters degrees in food science and business. He has worked in the food and chemical industries in the private sector as an operations manager.
