IBRC inquiry suspended until April after judge’s request

Taoiseach Enda Kenny has formally agreed to suspend the Commission of Investigation into Irish Bank Resolution Corporation (IBRC), which includes the acquisition of Siteserv by Denis O'Brien, until April.

Mr Justice Brian Cregan, the High Court judge appointed to oversee the Commission of Investigation, had requested such a move.

Mr Justice Cregan asked for new legislation to allow the inquiry to complete its work.

The Government last year asked Mr Justice Cregan to investigate 38 IBRC transactions involving write-offs of more than €10 million each.

Mr Kenny had said a limited Siteserv inquiry would “only be feasible” if the Commission of Investigation headed by Mr Justice Cregan was given a new legal basis to ensure it could examine confidential banking files.
