A man who held four people hostage in Co Tipperary was tasered by gardaí before being arrested yesterday.
The incident happened at a pharmacy in Ladyswell, Cashel, shortly after 10am.
A man in his 20s entered the premises with an imitation firearm and held the staff hostage for more than two hours.
Gardaí were alerted, and members from the regional support unit, as well as negotiators and gardaí from Cashel, Clonmel and Thurles, arrived at scene.
At about 12.20pm, the suspect was arrested by gardaí after a taser gun had been used.
A taser is a less than lethal weapon carried only by special Garda units. It is an electro-shock weapon that temporarily disables a person and allows gardaí to overpower a suspect.
Gardaí have said that the suspect sustained no injuries in the incident. The man was taken to Cahir Garda station for questioning. He remained there yesterday evening. Gardaí said no charges had yet been brought in relation to the incident
