A 23-YEAR-OLD man died following a single-vehicle crash in Co Limerick in the early hours of yesterday morning.

Two teenage males who were passengers in the car are in a serious condition in hospital following the collision on the Dooradoyle Road in Limerick City.

Gardaí said the incident occurred when the silver BMW in which the men were travelling crashed into an entrance pillar at around 2.15am.

The injured teenagers were taken by ambulance from the scene of the crash to the nearby Mid-Western Regional Hospital.

Gardaí have appealed to anyone with information about the incident to contact them at Roxboro Road Garda station on 061-214340.

Meanwhile, gardaí from Abbeyleix are investigating a single-vehicle collision in which Michael Dowling, 41, of Crosseen, Co Carlow died on Friday night.

Mr Dowling, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was killed when the car in which he was travelling crashed into a wall in Co Carlow. The incident occurred at approximately 10.30pm on the N80 Carlow to Portlaoise Road, about 3km from Carlow town.

The driver of the car and another passenger were taken to St Luke’s Hospital in Kilkenny following the crash. Their injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

Meanwhile, an elderly woman who died after being struck by a bus in Cork city on Friday morning has been named by gardaí.

Kathleen O’Connell (72), of High Street in Cork city, was hit by the vehicle at around 8am on the Southern Road.

She was taken to Cork University Hospital and was pronounced dead shortly before 9am.

Elsewhere, gardaí in Dublin have issued a renewed appeal for witnesses to a fatal collision at the junction of Harold’s Cross Bridge and Wharton Terrace which occurred last Wednesday.

A male cyclist who was in his 30s was fatally injured when he was involved in a collision with a cement truck at approximately 10.30am.
