If you do one thing this week . . . avoid migraine in the run-up to exams
THE LEAVING and Junior Cert written exams are coming up, and being in the full of your health on the days you take them can help. But what if you tend to get migraines?
The Migraine Association of Ireland (MAI) has some tips for avoiding a flare-up around exam time, and they could be well applied to students who don’t get migraines too.
Allowing yourself plenty of time to study ahead of exams can help reduce levels of stress, which can be a trigger for some migraineurs.
Keeping to a routine is a good strategy, and they advise to avoid overnight cramming, missing meals and snacking on junk food. Get some exercise too, even just a brisk walk during the day, and stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water.
The MAI hosts a website specifically for teenagers, migra-zone.ie, or you can call the association's helpline service for advice or to order a free information pack at 1850 200 378 (ROI), 0844 826 9323 (NI) or email info@migraine.ie
