Garda reaction:The Garda Representative Association (GRA) has strongly criticised the findings of the three latest reports of the Morris Tribunal on Det Sgt John White.

GRA general secretary PJ Stone said Det Sgt White had been acquitted at two criminal trials yet Mr Justice Frederick Morris concluded he was "probably" guilty.

"No citizen in the country would have their rights trampled on in this fashion when they have been cleared of all criminal wrongdoing in the courts of law and we don't see why a member of An Garda Síochána should be treated any differently," he said.

"I believe it is a cause of concern that any citizen, whether a member of the Garda Síochána or not, can be effectively convicted of a criminal act on the balance of probability."

The GRA also criticised the publication by Minister for Justice Michael McDowell yesterday of draft disciplinary regulations for the force.

Mr Stone said his association had been involved in a consultation process on regulations which was not yet finished.

The Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors said it was considering the reports.

It did not indicate exactly when it would comment.

A spokeswoman for An Garda Síochána said the force had received the reports and it would be considering their content.
